Why this role is hard to fill

Registry specificity matters. AB, OB and vascular are separate credentials and rarely all held by one person.

What candidates ask before accepting

Answering these in the req itself shortens the process considerably, because they are the questions that otherwise surface at offer stage and cause declines: Exam mix, whether OB is included, portable volume and scan times allowed per exam.

Contract or permanent?

Contract restores scanner uptime immediately; permanent fixes the structural gap. Many facilities deliberately run both, so a traveller holds the schedule while a permanent search proceeds without pressure. Contract-to-hire works particularly well here because modality competence is obvious within weeks on your own equipment.

Licensure

Imaging licensure is state-by-state with no portability. Roughly eleven states do not license individual technologists at all, regulating instead at facility or equipment-operator level — where that applies, verification of registry status and continuing competency falls to you rather than a state board. ARRT is the primary registry across modalities.
